Ankerton Gas Co-op Ltd. is held in common by people linked in membership. It is a legal entity, a collection of assets, a Corporate Seal, a list of articles and bylaws. It is something very special because of the “co-op difference”. This difference is the way in which these things are held by members, controlled by members and used by members. The people making up this Co-op have met together in co-operative membership - belonging and sharing equally.
THE BEGINNING
April 1973 - The Alberta Government announced The Rural Gas Policy, which was a plan to extend the use of natural gas to all rural Albertans at a reasonable cost.
THE GOAL
The purpose of this organization is to construct and to operate a safe and efficient gas system. The system shall be designed to provide natural gas to all who reside within the assigned boundaries of the area.
THE POLICY
To achieve this goal, a co-op type business, based on a sense of equality, equity and mutual self-help, was established. The membership of the Co-op will delegate decision-making power to a Board of Directors, who is elected by the membership. This Board of Directors will establish, on an on-going basis, policy, which will provide power for the day-to-day decision-making to a Co-op Manager.
Ankerton Gas Co-op Ltd is a member owned, locally operated not for profit natural gas distribution system located east of Camrose, Alberta.
